Do you remember playing pranks at sleepovers as a child? Such as putting someone’s hand in warm water to make them pee or putting someone’s wet underwear in the freezer. I was a sad child because I never did any of these things. The only thing I ever did was toilet paper my teachers house in high school and that was awesome, especially since the pictures made it into the year book. It will forever be immortalized!
A couple of weeks ago, I finally had the opportunity and gumption to pull one of these pranks. It was a sweet moment not only because it was a long overdue first but because the prank was pulled on my husband. We were all watching TV when my husband dozed off and one of us jokingly said "we should paint his nails." Most of the time, I find these moments are passed by with someone saying "yeah that would be funny" and then it never materializes. This time we seized the opportunity.
With red nail polish in hand we set out to complete the prank. Claudia took the left hand and I took the right. For a moment I thought we weren't going to be successful because Nick woke up to us laughing hysterically but we simply told him we were laughing at the movie and he unknowingly nodded back off to sleep. No matter how hard we tried we just couldn't stop laughing just like a couple of school girls.
Nick didn't discover his manicure until he awoke to the baby that night and went to get himself a glass of water. At first, he thought his nails were bleeding and then suddenly reality hit him. I so wish I could have seen his facial expression at that moment. He swears to this day that he is going to get us back but I am not sure if he can top it. Then again if I know my husband, he well immediately start plotting his revenge due to the mere fact I stated he couldn’t top our prank. Bring it on!
The next morning, I was a nice wife and I gave him nail polish remover and a short lesson on how to remove red nail polish. I never thought I would ever have to teach my husband how to remove nail polish. Looking back, I wish I would have held the nail polish remover ransom (Such a great idea Aunt Renee!). I can always use some new shoes!
This experience got me thinking, are there some things in life that should be reserved for childhood, such as practical pranks? Hell no! I think the more "childlike" things we do as adults the funner our lives become. And yes I know funner is not a word!
